Chip Stack

# Typeset Sample — Chip Stack A five-scene vertical reel built on ONE device: a centred stack of line-chips that interlock, alternating between two treatments. - **Quiet lines** sit on a light plate in dark type, at the smaller size, and **type out one character at a time**. The plate is at full width from the first frame — a transparent character still takes its advance — so the chip never grows as the words arrive. - **Loud lines** sit on the accent plate in light type, half again as large, and **snap in** with an elastic overshoot rather than typing. Chips overlap their neighbour by about nine pixels and each line paints over the one above it, which is what makes the stack read as one interlocked block rather than four separate labels. ## Scenes | scene | lines | carries | | --- | --- | --- | | `hook` | 4 | the recreated reel: two typed lines around two popped ones | | `promise` | 3 | one loud claim between two quiet lines | | `proof` | 4 | a figure taking a loud line, so it pops rather than types | | `offer` | 2 | the shortest form — a setup and a price | | `outro` | 3 | the sign-off, the address typing out last | Every stack is pinned by its FOOT, not its top, so a two-line scene and a four-line one rest on the same line and the block never jumps between cuts. ## The motion, as measured The source is a 7.2s screen recording of a 390x710 preview, so every number below was read off the frames (canvas = screen x 1920/710) rather than guessed. | beat | how | at | | --- | --- | --- | | a quiet plate | opacity only — it does not scale | line index x 0.21s | | its characters | per-`char` opacity, no movement | plate + 0.15s, 0.125s each | | a loud chip | `scale` 0.2 -> 1 on `elastic.out(1, 0.4)` | line index x 0.21s | The loud chip was measured at 0 -> 1.25x at 0.09s -> 0.95x at 0.16s -> settled by 0.30s. The undershoot AFTER the overshoot is what rules out `back.out`, which only overshoots once and never comes back under. Nothing is keyed to a scene's end. The reel holds its finished stack for four seconds before looping; none of that is ported, because the narration will not be the length the placeholder is. ## Type `inter` at 700 throughout — the reel's face is a neo-grotesque and Inter is the catalogue's closest. Sizes come from the measured cap heights: 25px of cap on the loud lines and 17.5px on the quiet ones at preview scale, which is 95px and 64px of type on a 1080x1920 board. `lineHeight: 13` (1.36em) is what makes the pill 60 and 38 preview pixels tall, matching the chips in the frames. `backgroundFit: "line"` pads itself 0.16em/0.4em and rounds at `radius/100` em, so the corner is stated once (`radius: 35` = 0.35em) and holds at both sizes — which is what the reel does, where both chip sizes share a corner. ## The three renditions Each is designed against its own canvas. `9:16` parks the stack in the lower band with its foot at 93.4%; `1:1` keeps the same width so the chips are the same fraction of it, and rests at 92%; `16:9` halves every chip's share of the width, so the block drops to a lower third with its foot at 76%. Every `font.size` is restated per ratio — the same stored number renders 0.5625x on the two short canvases. ## Legibility The chips are opaque, so nothing needs a scrim and no photo has to stay dark. The only type floating on the picture is the brand wordmark, which carries a soft halo written as the authored ground at 65% so it travels with the palette. ## Filling it The photographs are generic placeholders — every one is a `photo` slot and any picture works. Copy comes in as one slot per line; keep a loud line to one or two words and a quiet line to two or three, because both are `nowrap` and a long line will run past the frame rather than wrap.
